FIELD PREPRATION | Prepare the fields after giving irrigation by giving 2-3 harrowings and 2-3 tilerings before planting Conserve the moisture by proper planking. |
FERTILIZER APPLICATION | Before planting, apply the recommended dose of fertilizers in rows as per soil test-based recommendations. However, general recommendations are as follows. 40kg n per acre through Urea which should be broadcasted 2-3 days before planting or through Ammonium sulphate by drilling at planting. 32kg p2o5 per acre through Diammonium phosphate or single Superphoshate and 40kg K2O per through Muriate of potash by drilling. Apply 35kg of N per acre through urea at the time of earthing-up after 30days of planting. |
PLANTING | Plant the seed potato during 1st fortnight of October by keeping 20 cm distance between tubers and 60cm between ridges manually or mechanically with tractor |
WEEDING | Hand-weeding/tractor operated tillers can be used. |
PRE-EMERGENCE | Spray Sensor(metribuzine) 70WP @ 200g per acre or Lasso(alachlor) 50 EC @ 2litre per acre before emergence of sprouts. Spray Gramaxone (paraquat) 24 @ 500-750ml per acre at 5-10% emergence of crop plants but only if weeds are there in the crop. |
EARTHING-UP | After weeding of the crop carry out the earthing-up manually or mechanically with tractor followed by irrigation. |
IRRIGATION | Immediately or 2-3 days after planting depending the soil moisture status. The crop responds better to light and frequent irrigations. Normally, 3-5 more irrigation are adequate, depending upon the soil type and temperature. Avoid Flooding. |
